Latest New York Islanders trade Rumors

Anders Lee: Anders enters this season on the final year of his contract and is eligible for unrestricted free agency.

“You know where you stand and what’s going on but, at the same time, just try and go play hockey and do what you’ve always done,” Lee said on Thursday as the veterans reported for training camp at Northwell Health Ice Center in East Meadow.

“Things are going to work itself out. I was able to watch and learn from John Tavares but our cases are different.”

Lee, 28, who signed a four-year, $15-million deal in 2015, set career highs with 40 goals and 62 points last season.

Jordan Eberle: “You know it’s there but, at the same time, you just want to bear down and treat it like any other year,” Eberle said. “I love playing here. I love the organization. I love the fans and I want to get off to a good start and help the team win some games. That’s my mindset.”

The concern for the New York Islanders is, if GM Lou Lamoriello cannot get Eberle or Lee signed by the 2019 NHL Trade Deadline, does he trade both players and not risk losing them to free agency for nothing?

Will the Winnipeg Jets bridge, long-term or trade Josh Morrissey?

The Winnipeg Sun: Ken Wiebe reports the Josh Morrissey watch is officially on. The restricted free agent defenceman wasn’t in attendance and remains without a contract. This isn’t the end of the world or a signal the sky is falling, but it’s more than a tad surprising the two sides have yet to reach a deal.

After an incredibly busy summer for Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff, the fact his top-pairing defenceman is in jeopardy of missing the first on-ice sessions of training camp has be a bit disconcerting.

It doesn’t mean Morrissey doesn’t want to be here or that he’s looking for a trade, which are two common over-reactions when situations like this arise.

It might just mean he wants a bigger share of the pie.

It’s impossible to know for sure what is happening in the negotiation, but it usually comes down to money and term.

A one-year bridge deal is likely for Morrissey. By next summer, the Jets should have a better idea of whether or not Jacob Trouba will be sticking around, plus they’ll also decide if Tyler Myers is offered a contract extension.
