Will the Hurricanes trade for a top-two center?

NHL.com: A playmaking center for one of the top two lines remains the Carolina Hurricanes biggest need, and they’ll probably have to add one eventually to compete for the Stanley Cup. They have stockpiled an impressive group of young defensemen — Noah Hanifin, 20; Brett Pesce, 22; Jaccob Slavin, 23; Justin Faulk, 25; Haydn Fleury, 21; and Jake Bean, 19 — but have been reluctant to trade any of them for a center.

GM Ron Francis has been patient in rebuilding the Hurricanes and has done well in collecting assets through the NHL Draft and smaller trades. At some point, he’ll need to utilize some of those assets in a bigger trade.

Will Jaromir Jagr get a contract offer in the NHL?

NHL.com: Jaromir Jagr, 45, didn’t think it would be so hard to get an NHL contract after his 46 point season. Jagr is second in all-time scoring behind Wayne Gretzky with 1,914 points and second in all-time games behind Gordie Howe with 1,711 – 56 games behind Howe. Jagr said,

I LEAVE IT ALL ON MY AGENT [PETR SVOBODA]. THERE IS A COUPLE OF [NHL] TEAMS THAT SHOWED INTEREST, BUT NOTHING SPECIFIC YET.

Latest Detroit Red Wings rumors

NHL.com: Detroit Red Wings GM Ken Holland suggested he could be forced to trade a player before the start of 2017-18 to become salary-cap compliant. Defenseman Mike Green ($6 million cap hit) and center Riley Sheahan ($2.075 million) could be trade candidates. Green is eligible next summer for unrestricted free agency while Sheahan will be a restricted free agent.
